Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any further questions our friendly team would be happy to help

Will treatment hurt?

No, Chiropractic treatment does not hurt when carried out by a qualified professional. You may feel some short term discomfort if there is muscle spasm around the area to be treated. If your problem has not been treated for a long time there may be some post-treatment soreness. Your chiropractor will tell you if this is likely to happen and how to minimise any discomfort.

How long will Chiropractic take to work?

On your first visit during your “report of findings”, your chiropractor will give you a guideline of how many sessions it may take before you expect an improvement.  In the mean time, there is no quick answer to the above question but we realise it is an important one, so we will try and give you an idea.

Firstly, there are many variables that can influence the speed at which someone responds to treatments:

  • The actual diagnosis
  • Age
  • Length of time you’ve had the problem
  • Previous episodes of the condition
  • Previous traumas to the area
  • Activity or fitness levels
  • Family history
  • Stress
  • Diet
  • Medication

For example, a fit, healthy 20 year old with their first episode of pain in an area may require 5 treatments with some advice and exercises before the problem is resolved and they need no further care.

Whereas a sedentary 60 year old who has had a constant niggle in an area for 20 years since an accident may require 10 treatments before they report considerable relief. After this, they may need to perform regular exercises and may wish to have an occasional check-up every few months to “manage” the complaint and prevent it from worsening again.

Is it safe?

Chiropractic is one of the safest health professions in the world. Your chiropractor will do a complete examination and may take x-rays to determine if there is any reason why you can’t be helped through Chiropractic care. If your chiropractor feels that Chiropractic treatment is not appropriate for the cause of your problem, you will be referred to your GP or to a suitable specialist.

How often will I have to visit?

The number of adjustments varies with each patient and their individual health goals. Many patients sense some progress within a week or two of frequent visits. Visits are less often as your spine stabilises. In difficult cases, complete healing can take months or even years.
