Chiropractic techniques are suitable for children at any ages or stage of development and we see children as early as 1 week old. We carry out a careful assessment relevant to the age of the infant and the techniques we use to treat are delicate, careful and always tailored to the individual.
The treatment for babies and young children is modified from that of an adult, using a gentle pressure which can help to soothe and relax your baby. Our Paediatric team have completed extensive further training in paediatric care and are very experienced in treating children of all ages.
We provide expert Paediatric Chiropractic care in a supportive and relaxing environment, taking the time to get to know you and your baby so we can offer the most appropriate care.
HOW WE ADAPT OUR APPROACH
In an initial consultation we will take a full history covering details of your pregnancy, your birth story and any concerns you have for your baby. We then carry out an assessment to see what might help, this may involve checking things such as their movement patterns, areas of tension, reflexes, milestones, weight and head measurement.
The treatment for babies and young children is modified from the treatments we use on adults, using a light, gentle pressure. We can treat while you are holding your baby or while they are in their pram if they are more comfortable.
Our Paediatric appointments have time built in for feeding, naps and nappy changes, we have toys and books for older children and siblings are very welcome to attend.
toddlers and older children
Chiropractic techniques are suitable for children at all ages and stages of development, not just newborns. Our assessment and treatment will vary depending on the presenting condition and the age of your child but we regularly see toddlers, preschoolers and teenagers in the clinic.
What to Expect
Assessment
Your initial consultation will begin with a full history to enable your chiropractor to learn more about you, your child and your pregnancy. This will be followed by a physical examination tailored to your child’s age and based on the concerns you have.
Report of findings
If further testing or referral is required, your referral options will be discussed with you at this point.
Treatment AND exercises
Once you are happy with the treatment options and have had any questions you may have answered the first treatment can start. This usually takes place within the first visit.
We are happy to liaise with your midwife or your child’s doctor or other healthcare provider at any point during the course of treatment with us.
